I am the owner of a Black English Spotted Doe and I was wondering if anyone could help me in how is the best way to go about rabbit showing, I believe my Doe meets the criteria and i am more then interested in showing her and meeting others that have such passion and love for these beuatiful animals. Any advice would be more then helpful. Thank you
Congratulations !!! to our " English Gentleman" Bernard Double on winning Best In Show and The "Tom Millar Gold Shield " at this years adult stock show with a Black Doe, also very pleasing was the fact that all five colour cup winners were owned by different exhibitors , which can only be good for the English fancy.
Well done also to our Sale of the Stars auctioneer Bob Chappell on following his Gold Cup success with another win gaining best under 5 months in the support show.
On a more personal note I would like to thank all members that voted for me on this years ballot and making me Vice - President for the 125th year of the club.
I am now looking forward to the Sale of the Stars tomorrow and the rabbits are to be auctioned at 12.30pm - don't be late !

For those with sat nav the post code for the crem for Geoff's funeral is LS19 6JP.
Geoff's funeral arrangements are as follows:
Monday, 13th October at Rawdom Crematorium, 11:40 hrs. Think there is a wish for donations rather than flowers if anyone is interested, but I will not know this until next Tuesday. Will update further as soon as I have the details.
It is with sadness I have to inform you that one of our elder statesman in the fancy, Geoff Midwood passed away today, peacefully at home at the age of 88.
I know not everyone always agreed with Geoff with regard to his ideals and thoughts, but these thoughts and ideas were always to ensure the success of the English rabbit and the running of our great club. Anyone that knew him would concur he was English through and through and only had the best interests of the English in his mind at all times.
He will certainly be very much missed by myself and Brian and I am sure people in the fancy up and down the country.
I have spoken with Madge tonight and as always, she is as stoic as ever.
As soon as I have any details about the funeral, I will post them so anyone that wishes to attend can do so.
CAN I JUST SAY WHAT A DELITE IT WAS TO TRAVEL TO PENDLE SHOW TO SUPPORT THE NORTH WEST ENGLISH STOCK SHOW AND ON ARRIVAL FINDING OUT THAT THERE WAS AN ENTRY OF 70 YES 70 ENGLISH ON SHOW.SO MANY PEOPLE HAD MADE THE EFFORT TO GO AND SUPPORT THE CLUB WHAT WONDERFUL PICTURE IT WAS TO SEE SUCH A GOOD ENTRY.THEN TO COVENTRY TO SUPPORT THE WEST MERCIAN ENGLISH CLUB AND TO GET AN ENTRY OF 38 AND THATS WITHOUT SHOW SUPPORT.ALL I CAN SAY IS WELL DONE TO ALL EXHIBITORS AT BOTH SHOWS TO HAVE MADE THE EFFORT TO HELP BOTH THESE CLUBS.AS GARY SAYS WE BREED THEM TO SHOW THEM AND THATS WHAT WE DID.WELL DONE EVERYBODY.AND BY THE WAY I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED BOTH SHOWS LETS HOPE THE ENTRIES CONTINUE.
I would like to post a message from Wendy Parry ( Haslam ) ;
It is with great sadness that I am informing you that my Dad , Fred Haslam passed away this week . I also wanted to let you know that the funeral service is at Rotherham Crematorium on Tuesday 5th August at 10.30am for anyone who may be able to attend.
I remember my rabbit show childhood with great affection and my many rabbit show aunties and uncles ,sadly many of whom are no longer with us, I believe my dads dear friend Gilbert Martin also passed away on the very same day.
How nice that they will maybe meet up on their way .
ple ase note that two of our most respected life members died on Tuesday 22nd July namely Fred Haslam and Gilbert Martin both had experienced poor health over recent years but both had registered major wins and had contributed to the clubs success throughout their lifetime. We expect articles will appear in the next issue of Spotlight regarding tyheir respective backgrounds this certainly should make interesting reading as they were two great ENGLISH men.
To Brian & Aaron who show as Hirstle & Dewhirst on winning the "Gold Cup" with a Black Buck

The funeral cremation service was one that I will always remember primarily due to the difference to the norm. there were no flowers,no hymns or church music. the gentleman conducting the proceedings had an in depth knowledge of Peter and he welcomed about 80 people to celebrate the life of Peter bringing untold humour to the occassion, there wasnt a tear in sight, as people passed the coffin the music of Alice Cooper was playing apparently this was Peters favourite music. The NERC was well represented and I am positive the ceremony would have certainly been given Peters thumbs up. As we travelled home from Barnsley. Keith Oldroyd, Brian Marsh Ron Sharp and myself agreed this was the way to say the final farewell.
I have just received details regarding the funeral of Peter Rockliff, he will be cremated next Wednesday afternoon at 3PM at the Barnsley Crematorium, it is my intention to attend together with Ron Sharp and YAERC Pres.ident Brian Marsh
I am sorry to inform the members that Peter Rockliff Life member of YAERC has died after a very short time in hospital our condolenses have been passed to Peters wife Monica
details of the cremation date currently is unknown.
after a disasterous start to the breeding season due primarily to the adverse weather we now have the first youngsters venturing out of the nests, it is to be hoped other English breeders have had better success with the YSS less than 3 months away. May we wish you all a good year, looking forward to seeing that elusive Gold cup winner. Brian.K.

to Ian McConnell of Scotland on winning the Tom Millar Gold Shield at the Scottish Rabbit Club show today with the Tortoiseshell Buck that also won the Dibble Gold Cup -
"A Rare Double "
If you e-mail me I might be able to help you
I just wanted to ask if there is anywhere I can find further information regarding my Gt Grandfather's prize winning rabbits from 1933 ?
I have a lovely Championship Certificate telling me that his rabbit "Clipstone Lady" won 5 first prizes throughout July to August 1933 but I wondered if there was any more info anywhere regarding any further winners he might have had ?!
Any help anyone may be able to give me would be greatly appreciated.
Looking at the anticipated list of rabbits to be donated for this years sale of the stars ,it is a most impressive list which reflects the hard and persuasive works undertaken by Gary and Steve together with the extreme generosity of the English membership. All we need now is some competitive bidders to make the event one to be remembered. I recognise many members have lost stock over the past years which makes even more appreciated the generous gifts made to the sale which I expect will result in a financial success to the club and with several successful bidders adding to their respective studs.
Brian.K. (N.E.R.C. ] President.
I have just enjoyed 15 minutes going through the NERC webpage thoroughly impressed with the collective reports and I found compring the photos of the winning rabbits was a real pleasure. I rapidly drew the conclusion that with this standard of coverage we are truly indebted to both Leah and Gary in keeping the English fancy aware of what is happening at the principal shows. On behalf of the English Fancy can I record heartfelt appreciation of your combined efforts, not forgetting Julie who supplied several photographs, long may this continue. Brian Kettlewood.
I went up to the Turriff Show at the start of August with Steve and I enjoyed a wonderful weekend, we where spoilt rotten by Wendy and Stephen. I was told by Stephen it would be Turriff Shows 150th show in 2014 to which I thought that maybe Scottish Dutch and English might be able to help them celebrate it by having a stock show there. just a thought
Just to let you all know a new page has been added onto the subscriptions page called " Club Items " it shows you items that are available from the National English Rabbit Club and for any prospective members don't forget to go to Links and then Breeders Directory and this will show you breeders in your area that may possibly have stock for sale and don't forget to go to Area Clubs and visit the News & Results page as this will give you up to date show reports on recent shows and the photos will help you to put names to faces and you will be made most welcome at any of our Area shows, just introduce yourself to us and join us in this wonderful hobby .
I thought the prompt coverage with photos ot the LERC YSS was really impressive, thankyou Gary & Leaha your combined input is trult appreciated.
What a lovely tribute you have made to your Uncle Ian regarding his success in winning the coveted Gold Cup at the recent NERC YSS.
In answer to your enquiry regarding how many Scots have won the Gold Cup I think only 3 have had the honour. the first was Gary Robertson in 1991 with a grey, the following year Andy Hutton won the Gold Cup with a black ( albiet Andy was living in Thirsk at the time ) your Uncle Ian being the 3rd in the 91 years that the cup has been presented.
I will never forget the pleasure it was in presenting the trophy to Ian prior to his departure with John Gardiner back to Scotland.
I consider the club are indeed fortunate in having such great fanciers prepared to make the long journey South to get the best competition, I know I personally look forward to crossing the border to compete for Tom Millers Gold Shield alternate years. For the record the last Scot to win the Gold Shield was Archie Hamilton in 1996 with a grey.
hopefully I may meet you on October this year when we will see if Uncle Ian can do the DOUBLE.
Brian.K. ( NERC President )
Congratulations uncle Ian on winning the Gold Cup.
Ian has been winning many prizes since childhood (he's over 60 now!) with his rabbits prior partnering his dad (my grandad) with the pigeons!! His bedroom drwers were full of certificates and rosettes for the rabbits, travelling all over the country, on foot and buses in those days!
He's had many successes with "the doos" too, the ulimate being the National winner, with what we called the "wee blue hen" He was also a well respected judge (for pigeons, not people!) in the eye sign classes.
Ian has undergone some serious health issues recently and although he would never admit or thank me for sayng so! this makes winning this cup extra special to those that know him.
He is such a dedicated and committed enthusiast and strives to succeed in everything he does, he does do things well and in a modest way whether they be rabbits, pigeons or helping others alike.
Sincere congratulations uncle Ian and may the success continue, you deserve an accolade as well as the rabbits and pigeons.
My question is How many Scots have won the Gold Cup in its history?
Regards & Thanks
May the club continue to reach out to many more enthusiasts.
Hope you all had a good weekend at the National Young Stock show on the 7th & 8th July,
I have been away on holiday so I will now start filtering info to our webmaster Leah who as usual is doing an excellent job on our website,as Leah doesn't keep English we must be thankful for the time and effort that she puts in.
Congratulations to our Scottish traveller Ian McConnell for winning the Gold Cup with a Tortoiseshell Buck
I have just viewed the News & photos and congratulate our webmaster Gary together with Liah they have without question done a sterling job covering recent shows with excellent news and very good photographs thank you both for your efforts I certainly am looking forward to the coverage of the YSS l;ast weekend I am sure many of our members will enjoy your input, long may it continue as it gives an excellent insight to the breed hopefully getting new members along the way.
Just getting ready for Thirsk and thought that I would wish you all a good weekend and hope the standard of the English is first class. I hope Steve , Trevor and David enjoy them selves judging.
At the NERC ASS the clubs 1st calender will be on sale price £ 6.95.
The 12 months of the year will be based on the 5 colour cup winners at both National shows plus the 2 best of breed in the 2 su pport shows. Each month will show both sides of a colour cup winner and as a bonus the calender will list all recipients of both Gold Cup & Gold Shield since these trophies were first introduced.
The proof format copy was available to view at the recent YAERC/NECERC YSS and was very well received I took orders for 30 at this show and if you would like to reserve a copy please let me know at one of the shows or by telephone to enable me to order the correct quantity. I have incorpo rated the post & packing charge in the selling price, if you collect at the Adult stock show at Kegworth in November £1.10 will be donated to the club funds.I am confident the concept of a National English calender will be well received and should become an annual item.
Brian Kettlewood ( NERC President )
The joint show of YAERC & NECERC was held yesterday with an entry of 75 English Stewart Howson judged the YAERC YSS and made grey buck of Kettlewood & Sharp the best in show .Best Adult was the Grey of John&Blair Gardiner. John Kay judged the

I am looking for 2 baby black charlie does from the same litter. They will be well loved, and properly cared for pets. I will be ready to take them in approximately 3 weeks. Their new hutch and run are in the process of being built and we will have the garden rabbit safe within the next 2 weeks.
If you have any babies looking for a good home will you please let me know? I am in the St Neots area.
Thank you very much.
Looking forward to the NERC Adult Stock Show to be held next weekend 19/20th November at Kegworth, you are very welcome to come along and see some of the best English being judged by Derek Medlock Peter Brophy and Eric Burton. I am positive that the visit will prove well worth your while.
Please make yourself known to me, it will be a pleasure to discuss any aspect of the breed. Regards Brian.K. ( N.E.R.C. President )
Enjoyed the radio 4 program today. Sounds a fascinating pastime.
I picked up an English today for the first time in too many years. It's nice to see the pictures of the winning rabbits and leaves me with a wish that I had the time to keep, breed and show them again. The black of Rogers reminds me in no small part of the gold cup winning black of his grandaughters (as I remember) to which I came second that year!
Wishing you all best wishes and good luck and never forget how honoured you are to breed the English.
Peter and Linda Fox.
